I'm having a similar issue. Got a new battery but no signs of life from the starter. I can always jump start the car so, I know the starter is fine. Do the battery cables go bad from the rear seat to the engine compartment??

Cables themselves don't go bad, but earlier vehicles had a fuseable link in the positive cable. I may be corrected by someone on this, but maybe that is your problem.

Do you have 12v to the starter solenoid when cranking, good grounds thru out? Security stay on?
