Ok the car has been randomly stalling everyone and a while, while driving and I have to pop it in neutral to start it again. It hasnt stalled while moving in a while but the past few weeks I would shut it off and go to start it a while later and it wont start. I wait for about 3 hours and try again and it starts no problem.
When it was not starting I checked for fuel and there is fuel going to it, but there is no spark at all going to the spark plugs. I'm thinking could this be a crankshaft position sensor? or a ECU. Can anyone tell me some tests to do so I can figure out what it is? Or any other ideas? |

Re: 94 3.8L v6 Regal
The crankshaft position sensor is a good bet. It will cause the problem you are stating. No spark but good fuel pressure. The sensor usually won't set a code in the computer until it fails competely. Change it and your problem should go away.

Re: 94 3.8L v6 Regal
I agree with Lynn, the crank position sensor is the most likely culprit.

Re: 94 3.8L v6 Regal
One test I found for my crankshaft position sensor was to simply take a water hose and squirt the hell out of it.
On mine, it was goofy because it wouldn't usually stop running (after the engine was hot of course) until you tried to drive or put the A/C on. Having the A/C on is what helped me to discover it was the sensor because with the A/C on, it would miss pretty bad and then when I squirted it, it would smooth out. Simply hose it off for a minute or so and see if it starts. It's not hard to get the nozzle down in there. Anyway, that's what worked for me. Word of warning! The pulley does not come off easy!!! We used a big puller and had a large ratchet with pipes on them to get it off while using a large screwdriver on the flywheel to keep the engine from turning. |

I am having this same problem and it is driving me crazy i can let it run for like 30 minutes it runs fine but whem i put it in gear i t will move like 20 feet and cut off and will not start for a few minutes. I have changed the battery, fuel filter & the alternater. I am looking for a OBD 1 & 2 so i can find this problem or does anybody know what is wrong that can help me ? I will try the camshaft sersor.

Re: 94 3.8L v6 Regal
Which one of these is the crankshaft sensor on the 94 Buick 3.8L Regal?:
1. Right side of engine below the EGR. ![]() 2. Behind engine, near the spark plugs.

The crankshaft position sensor is down at the bottom right of the engine behind the harmonic balancer/belt pulley, which is a pain in the arse to remove.

Re: 94 3.8L v6 Regal
Hey guys thanks for all your help I will try them all but i think it may just be my battery on a load it drops down to like 8 volts and dies out but after i start it back up on a jump start they battery stays at a steady 9 volts humm i hope this is the problem if not the senors will be replaced
