need help with tranny problems
I just bought a 95 grand cherokee laredo with 5.2 v8 all time 4wd. The problem i am having is the transmission. It works fine when it is cold goes in all gears and will drive. When it gets warm it will go into all the drive gears but does not shift quite right. As for reverse it will not grab right away but when it does grab it grabs real hard then it will drive. Was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what to do? And if anyone could tell me what transmission come in this year cherokee.

You might have better luck posting this in the Grand Cherokee forum.

Re: need help with tranny problems
I believe your ZJ (Grand Cherokee) and a 46RH transmission (verify first) needs a band adjustment for both the front band kickdown and reverse band.
The front band adjusting screw is located on the left side of the outside of the transmission and to gain access to the rear band the fluid pan must be removed. There is a locknut and adjusting screw for each. Loosen the adjusting screw a few turns and tighten the Front band adjusting screw to 72 inch lbs then back the screw up 2 and a half turns. Then tighten the front locknut to 30 foot lbs, be sure the hold the adjusting screw from turning while tightening the locknut. Do the same for the Rear band except adjust to 72 inch lbs then back off 2 turns, and the rear locknut should be 25 foot lbs. |

Re: need help with tranny problems
Moving to GC forum for you.
Make sure the fluid level is correct, and let us know how many miles you have on your Jeep. Also, how long has it been since the trans fluid was changed?
