DRL/Turn Signal Problem

Hi all. My newest problem involves the left front DRL/turn signal bulb and circuitry. When I replace the bulb, the turn signal works for a few days to a week, then starts blinking fast again. If I pull the bulb and put it back in it is good for another few days. The bulb does not flash when I unlock the doors with the keyless entry fob. And the bulb doesn't light when it should be on solid as a daytime running light. Rear signals work. Right side signals and DRL works. I've replaced the bulb twice, and I don't know what might be the problem. Any help appreciated.

Check and make sure the bulb is grounding in the socket properly and also check the wiring connections.

Have a real close look at the filaments in the bulb, does one touch the other when you shake it?

You may have to try another bulb. Keep in mind not all massed produced components turn out right.

That's what keeps mechanics and techs busy.

One last suggestion, handle these bulbs as you would a headlight bulb, do not touch the glass portion with bare skin, the oils from it will shorten the bulb life.

My venture has similar issues with passenger side front turn signal. With DRL, the front turn light is out, with headlights on, it works. Turn signal blinks fast, bulb has been replaced twice now, it's definitely NOT the bulb. Any other suggestions? I read elsewhere about checking all the connections under the carpeting, by taking the front seats out...considering that. HOWEVER, i bought my 02 venture in 06 used from a dealer. The radio won't play on accessory (with key turned back) so I have to turn it forward to hear music and of course all the lights come on when I do that. Anyway, this tells me the wiring has been an issue before, there is a loose wire, hanging from under the glove box. BUT everything else works---all lights, left signals, dash, power windows, only thing that doesn't work is the rear wiper, which is likely a bad motor there. THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS!

May want to look at the wiring harness assy under the carpeting in front of the passenger seat near the threshold cover. There's a channel in the floor where the wire harness sits. Any moisture that may have gotten in that area sits in the channel and starts to short out things in the passenger compartment and beyond, including the powered stuff in your doors. It is very possible that if you have discovered a wet harness assembly, the water is coming from a missing hose in your firewall that is supposed to drain any A/C condensate away from the firewall. If it is missing, the water comes in the passenger side under the carpeting and finds the lowest point, the wire harness channel. Before you fix any of the wires if they are wet, you need to replace that 90 degree hose on the firewall and try to secure it wire a small hose clamp.

Thank you. Since the A/C hasn't worked for 2-3 summers now, I doubt that is where the water is coming from. Can you tell me where the threshold cover is? Do you mean next to the door opening? There have been MANY spills of other sorts on both the drive and passenter floor board--the carpet has been soaked more than once so I'm pretty sure there's a mess under that carpet and this wiring harness is probably the culprit.

Yes, the threshold cover is the 2ft + plastic cover at the door opening that spans from your carpet to the body. Pop it up and voila, pull back the carpeting (you will not need to take out the seats) to reveal the wire harness in a channel in the floor. You may have to pop off the vertical cover in that same area near the light that lights where your feet go on the passenger side. As you will see as you peel back the electrical tape wrapped around the harness is multiple wire connections poorly made and not covered/secured too well. So many of mine were rusted and falling apart that I went ahead and respliced all of them. My rear taillights, drivers seat power controls began to then work properly. Good Luck.

BTW, if that area under the carpet is wet and as well further toward the firewall area under the black padding and upwards, then you probably do have the A/C-hose-now-gone-at-firewall leak I spoke of in my previous post.
