Accelerator sticking.

So in my 91 Camry DX, the accelerator is starting to stick (again). What happens is, when I press the accelerator, it gives some resistance, so I have to really push hard (but then it revs up the engine), so I have to quickly let go and then I'm able to use the accelerator normally... it's just starts to act up when I come to a full stop and stop using the accelerator.

The first time it had happened, I had gone for inspection, so they fixed it then, but inspection isn't for a little while now, and the way the mechanics had fixed it was by some sort of lubricant? I'm wondering if I can purchase this lubricant and do it myself... also, I'm not really sure where to spray it, I would assume by the accelerator itself?

Re: Accelerator sticking.

This is common and is caused by carbon build-up at the butterfly throttle valve. It's located where the flexible air intake hose attaches to the throttle body. Need to spray carb cleaner on a rag and wipe clean the butterfly valve and the throttle body area where the two meet.

Re: Accelerator sticking.

I agree with typesix. Most likely your throttle body needs to be cleaned. Use throttle body cleaner or O2 safe carb cleaner. Be sure to clean both sides of the throttle valve.

Re: Accelerator sticking.

Honestly, I was really skeptical at first, but should've realized that you guys know what you're talking about. This was such a simple/cheap fix. Thank you so much!
