Thumbs up 2008 YZR Super detail set from Top Studio

Just received the 2008 YZR Super detail set from Top Studio.
http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en_US/prod/39896.html
You need at Tamiya kit as donor, but I think only very, very parts will be used at the end of the day.
This kit is simply amazing and by far the best and most ambitious project from Top Studio.
Resin parts: looks 100 % like Tamiya. Looks even better than MFH.
Decals: Superb. Razor sharp.
Etch parts: Superb.
Metal parts: Superb.
Instructions. By far better than previous attempts. But boy – it looks like a complex job. But it also looks like a total killer if I ever get to the end.
But I am missing to see a complete project done by Top Studio including paint job etc. This could be a big help.
Recommended: YES!!!!!!!!

Re: 2008 YZR Super detail set from Top Studio

I got mine yesterday - and I agree 100%. This TK has moved MotoGP modelling on a major step.
The resin fairing parts are superbly cast, virtually no clean up. Even the small detail parts in resin are very crispy done.
The machined silencer is jaw dropping and even has the gauze/filter that fits just inside it!!
The only complaint I'd have is they didn't include a chain set for it.

Allan - there's one being built on Max Moto Modelling.

If you love bike modelling, or Rossi it's a must purchase. Hats off to Top Studio.

Re: 2008 YZR Super detail set from Top Studio

Hi guys,

I'm a big Rossi fan, but not yet bought this transkit. I decided to wait till mid 2009, and let Tamiya release it , if they dont , i will consider to buy it. But i still have some doubts. There is no question about the quality of this transkit. But:
- There are a lot of parts for the engine area and for other under-cowling areas, to imporve details and realistic. - BUT, you still have to use the old 999ccm engine?!?!?!
- If you want to hide the incorrect engine you have to put all the body parts, which will make most of the small detail parts from TopStudio useless - waste of money.
- For this money they should include the chain as it was mention before (btw i prefer Hobby Design chain)
- if you add the price of transkit + bike + chain + fork set you ends up at enormous sum , maybe more then the MFH Suzuki bike.

So i think it might worth to redesign the cowling parts from Tamiya, and invest the saved money to some smaller detailing kit + decal.

But this is only my opinion

Re: 2008 YZR Super detail set from Top Studio

I'm inclined to agree with you about the engine, but I believe from looking at the PitWalk 2007 book, the differences are not that great. The TK does pose a dillema -as the detail will be hidden.
I would love to see Tamiya do an 2008 M1 kit, but I doubt they will due to the Fiat/Rossi licensing costs.
I see once more no new Tamiya bikes at Nuremburg....

I doubt too that they will make it, but i gave them more time i would accept a Tech3 also i guess that would be cheaper from licensing point of view.
If not then comes plan B - to scatchbuild from '05 M1. in this economical situation i think i cannot afford the transkit this year

I agree on this. I'm a huge Rossi fan, but when I'm looking at my pile I'm still having enough kits to build until I die. So at this moment I will not buy it.

Re: 2008 YZR Super detail set from Top Studio

Wow, That kit looks amazing. Does it come with all the wiring like the detail up kits from them? As i haven't seen them in any of the pics only the connectors.
I really want to tackle one of the detail up kits one day and hope one day it will be finished.

Yeah the price is high, but you have to look at it as an invesment sometimes when you have too many kits to build during your life. I can imagine most of us are there already.
Investment only if tamiya doesn't release it, they spoiled mfh tkit already.

P.S. Show us progress in the future.

Very nice kit indeed. Price is high but in my opinion only as there is no replica engine. Feels a bit dull to put a 2005 engine (even with refreshing parts) in such a high end kit.

Insane price. Yes - but super detailing is and has always been expensive.
I had hoped for Tamiya releasing this kit. Guess I can wait the next 100 years.

With that in mind I have broken the seals of the kit and started to put it together and on the same time comparing parts with the 2007 MotoGP Racers archive. The result is stunning and the parts fits like a glove with very little waste material to be removed on resin parts. There are differences on the chassis between the kit and the 2007 book - but the transkit is for the 2008 version, so I'll look forward to the 2008 racers archive. The resulting model will be fully wired with the contents of the kit and you really have to be a top of the line MotoGP mechanic to be able to see the differences in the engine I guees. It is not like a Ferrari versus a cosworth engine in difference anyway. I have seen a lot of transkits in my time - from the soft resinblob to high tech extraordinaire - but this one is surely on the very top of the pile. High price - possibly - but you'll get everything you need inside the box apart from carbon decals. Yet again a stunner from Top Studio!
