Ferrari F40 in Pencil

Hey everyone, I just finished this one up this morning. Took me just over 26 hours total with a mechanical pencil and blending stumps.

This was one of the cars I remember drawing constantly when I was a little kid. I had it on calendars around my room, I read about it in Supercar books and learned how to draw it from a book called "Draw Cars!" when I was 10 or 11.

I still love everything about the F40 and got the chance to spot one in Moncton, New Brunswick when I was 13. Blew my mind AND it was pulling out of the parking lot of the Burger King we just parked in. It kind of has that childhood hero status to me...even though it is a car.

It's a masterpiece, and I don't toss that word around lightly.

The composition is eye catching.
The reflections appear to be in glass, with so much detailing. Amazing!

Re: Ferrari F40 in Pencil

That is extraordinary. What mastery. I find it amazing that such detail and realism can come from the end of a pencil!

I understand what you mean about the F40. I have moved on to Nissan Skyline GT-Rs now (particularly R32s) but there is something timeless and achingly brutal about a blood red F40. It captures you in a way that the 959 never did. I too remember this car from my childhood - it was the 'poster boy' of supercars for so many years - ultimately until the McLaren F1.

You never know, I sure didn't think I would be able to draw this well even 5 years ago! Practice though, I couldn't tell myself enough that you just gotta put in the time.

Re: Ferrari F40 in Pencil

I'm halfway through a drawing now and the 2 blending stumps i ordered have just arrived.

Just one thing, what grade sandpaper do you use to "sharpen" them?

They are fantastic, and i highly reccomend blending stumps to all.

Awesome! I use 180 grit sandpaper for my blending stumps. They really make a huge impact on the drawing don't they!?

Re: Ferrari F40 in Pencil

That is an incredible job! The F40 is one of my all-time favorites too, and that illustration shows some real passion for it too!
