building williams fw24

hey guys im new to the hobby after a multidecade hiatus
im amazed by all this aftermrkt stuff photo-etch and tubing
and things dont really know if they had that stuff in the early 80s
when i first started
anyway ive built about 10 kits since april some with p/e some not
my wife got me the williams fw24 detail set from scalemmotorsports and i was wondering has any one used or bdid a build with it,,it looks just a little bit beyond my abilities...but hey ill probably try it after a few more builds....anyone know of someone who has a thread with a w.i.p. of this car with set?

Hi, welcome back to the hobby.

Which detail set do you have for the FW24? Scale Motorsports produced a few.

My advice when starting off with aftermarket parts will be to carefully study the instructions and the parts to fully understand where they go. Some parts are obvious, for example faces of the brake discs. Some parts may require the moulded plastic part on the kit to be removed first before the photoetched part is installed. Furthermore, I would recommend buying a pair of decent photoetch clippers to remove the part from the sprue and a good photoetch file to file down the stub from the part when removed from the sprue.

Finally, there is a tool called the 'hold and fold' (I think) which helps with straight, neat folds.

Try a small part first and see how you get on. As with most things in life there is a first time for everything and practice makes perfect.

um mm its the sms super detail set she got from their website it costs almost$100 its got carbon fiber tmplats..turned componets couple of frets really cool kit if somewhat pricey..to me anyway..maybe ill just hold onto the kit and car as the car seems to be really rare since tamiya discontinued it

Do you think there's a chance we can swap partners. Ain't no way my girl would DREAM of even contemplating dropping that sort of money on a/m stuff after the kit has already cost about $A50.

BTW it's a really cool a/m set & REALLY goes a long way to showing off the model - especially if you do a full-on F1 garage dio with the car on the stands, covers off, etc

lol yeah shes a keeper..some times she even paints my window trim black(she does it better then me but ill never tell her)..know where i can get some of those eelectrical fittings these guys use
