US chooses diplomacy with North Korea "to prevent revival of M*A*S*H"

Quote:
NEW YORK, Monday: In a desperate attempt to revive their careers, the former cast of M*A*S*H has called on the U.S. government to launch a strike on North Korea as well as Iraq.

"Another Korean War doesn't just have the potential for mass destruction," said actor Jamie Farr who played the cross-dressing Corporal Maxwell Klinger in the original M*A*S*H. "It's also got the potential for some really wacky characters and totally madcap antics."

Farr joined unemployed actors Loretta Swift ("Hot Lips" Houlihan) and William Christopher (Fr Mulcahy) who have endorsed an American-led reprise of the Korean War as the pretext for a series of all new topical episodes of M*A*S*H. The actors have been joined by former writer, director and star Alan Alda (Hawkeye Pierce), who explained his support for the plan as "my best hope of avoiding a role in Woody Allen’s next film."

M*A*S*H cast members deny that their support for another Korean War is insensitive. "They said that about the first M*A*S*H too," said Alda. "But we always did obviously sensitive endings after the last commercial break in the old series, and I’m sure we’ll end with that 'war is hell' vibe in the new series too."

Surprisingly the Bush administration has welcomed the M*A*S*H cast's endorsement of war with North Korea. "We know our attempts to distinguish Iraq from North Korea haven't been very convincing," said one senior official. "Invading Iraq because of the threat of weapons of mass destruction makes it very difficult to justify not doing the same in Korea. But the threat of a M*A*S*H revival gives us a reason not to take on North Korea that everyone can agree with."
