Re: MOdel contest

Thanks for the replies! Im afraid thats maybe a little too far for me. Haha. But I would definitely love to be there in the future.

Besides those two, anybody know any others? What about Asia like Hong Kong, or Taiwan, or Malaysia? Will be grateful for any input. Thanks!

You did actually ask "where in the world?" not "where in Asia?"

Re: MOdel contest

Not in Asia but the NNL East in New Jersey USA is the largest model car
show in the world with up to 1500 model cars on the tables.

What is a prestigious model contest?

Many modeling events, like the NNLs mentioned above, are really more model shows instead of model contests. Sure there is a people's choice popularity vote (like AFMOTY), but builds are usually not objectively judged.

If you want to attend a judged contest, IPMS shows might be your best option. Of course IPMS does not restrict itself to cars, but they certainly do contests, and most of their contests have categories for cars. Search for IPMS organisations in your area, and see if there is a national level contest you can attend.

Haha. Since i only got replies which directs to America region, therefore i just wish to see if theres any in Asia region. America is still a place too expensive for me to go for now. But anyway both are part of the world right?
Hahaha..

Thanks very much for the info! Btw, pardon me for just putting 'contest' instead of 'shows'. Personally i dont really care is it a contest or whatever but i just wish to be able to display some of my works if possible and to interact with people with common interest. I know these IPMS shows, attended a very very small scale one a few years ago but somehow i feel that usually automobile are not that popular for IPMS events. Correct me if im wrong. Besides, i dont have much interest in war figures or tanks or ships. Therefore, it will be a pleasure for me to see just only automobile entries. Again thanks!

I understand that Hong kong did some model show/contest the past few years. Did anyone here attend it or if possible can anyone tell me where to find out their information.? Thanks in advance!

Re: MOdel contest

Asia...hmmm, you may not like the exchange rate, but...

At Shizuoka Hobby Show, there is a section of artist arrays where many modelers demonstrate their talent. You get to see many car models, in addition to upcoming new kits and possibly prototypes from Japanese manufacturers. The 2009 show will be held between May 14-17. The 14th, 15th are business days, and 16th and 17th are open to public.

Re: MOdel contest

Hello, I have participated in NNLs, IPMS Nationals and the GSL, and what I can say is:

NNLs:
HUGE amount of models!, from projects still in primer, to out of the box models and up to top notch highly detailed cars, very relaxed events, since it is only a show with a few trophies, nobody worries about competition.

IPMS Nationals:
Focused on military models, small amounts of cars compared to any other contest, but mainly high quality models.
and bad memories for me, ...

GSL
From my point of view, this is the contest with the highest level of competition I've been so far, large amounts of cars and most of them with a high competitive level, this event is held every two years and you will find there modelers from all around the world.
Last year "Best in Show" winner Mark Jones's Caterham (featured here in AF) is a vivid example of what you will find there.

I would like to hear about contest in Europe or Asia, never been in one.

I had never heard of this contest and was browsing last year's results...and I kept seeing your name everywhere! Congratulations!

Re: MOdel contest

I agree with Ramon(An outstanding modeler BTW), whom I met at the last GSL in 2007. I have been attending GSL since it revived in the mid 90's. The level of competition is exceptional. You will see some of the best modeling in the world. While model cars/transportation is the theme, the judging is based primarily on excellence in modeling skills, from the basics to the phenomenally scratch built and detailed.

Packed with seminars on various modeling skills and subject talks it is a weekend(Thurs - Sunday) of fun, learning and immersion in the subject of auto modeling with like minded artists.

If you build model cars you should attend, at least once!

The 2009 edition is April 30 to May 3. If you are lucky you will be hooked!

Re: MOdel contest

Hmm, that GSL looks like an interesting show, but unfortunately SLC is just way too far for me to go for a show.

Re: MOdel contest

That's true, GSL can be a hike, and is for most that attend. I have to make a 12 hour car journey from Canada. Fortunately we have a local car modeling club that travel pools together to attend. However the original question did specify "the world". And sometimes you have to be willing to do what it takes to get what you want! If you want to attend the best model car contests in the world, then you have to be prepared to go where they are! Maybe a future vacation could bring you to close to SLC at just the right time! Contests venues may be locations, that by the luck of the draw you can attend over and over again while others you may only get to attend once in your life. If it is a priority goal then as Captain Picard would say, You have to "...make it so..."

Re: MOdel contest

I'll be at this year's GSL. I live 12 blocks from Sheraton, so it should be fun. Is anyone from AF going besides millersbrm, and agamo (fantastic results from the last event, Ramon!)?
