Cannot turn key in ignition

Hi
I have an 03 ls that the ignition is frozen. The shifter is in park but the steering wheel did not lock. I put my key in and the seats adjust but will not turn and shifter will not move. Is there a way to shift the trans into neutral so I can see if the linkage is the problem or the tumblers? Or does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

When that happens in my vehicle I just wiggle the steering wheel while turning the key and that fixes the problem.

Re: Cannot turn key in ignition

Correct, no steering wheel lock on the Lincoln LS except for a few right hand drive Euro models where it is required.

Re: Cannot turn key in ignition

The Lincoln LS has the key cylinder switch located below the instrument cluster, but not part of the steering column. There is not mechanical linkage that would cause the steering to bind the key cylinder switch like on many cars.

I didn't know about the Euro models. I wonder if they used an electronic lock on those or relocated the key cylinder switch to the steering column?

It must be electronic because it is on the dash, they use a different style Euro key also that can only be removed when in park. I got my info from another Lincoln LS site with a UK member who has posted photo's of his rare RHD V8, most that were imported were V6. UK model also have headlight levelers rotary switch on the dash, headlight washers, and different tail lamps(amber lens).

Re: Cannot turn key in ignition

I replace them all the time.Im a locksmith..the shitty thing it you need to get it to turn before you can remove it yourself...you insert the key all the way and tap it a few times with a soft mallet and it will turn again.
