Loud clanking noise in 2000 Expedition
Hi Ford Forum Support
BACKGROUND: I had the rear brakes (drums and rotors) replaced on my Ford Expedition (about 6 months ago). Recently, I replaced with 4 new tires. Finally, I drive the vehicle about 80 miles a day about 2 - 3 times a week into the DC area. I recently put the car into 4WD for short distances due to the ice and snow in the area. I recently noticed a LOUD clanking noise when the car is coming to a stop. The first time I noticed it, I was in reverse. It almost feels like I dropped anchor and have to pull it a short distance. I did not have the car in 4WD when I noticed the noise and recently, it has happened again. can anyone help? Do you need more information that might be helpful? thanks |

Could be a bad u-joint on the drive shaft. Crawl under there and see if the drive shaft is loose on the third member.
