iPod dock in caprice

I installed an iPod dock in my 94 caprice, which plugs into the smokers lighter, and it fits in really nice, looking like it was made for it.

Now, on my caprice, when the engine is off, the lighter still runs providing power unlike most newer cars which shut off the lighter.

But, I noticed when an iPod is on the dock and the engine is turned off, the iPod automatically pauses and shuts off.

If the lighter doesn't turn off, how does that work? There's still current, so technically it should still run.

I think it senses the change in the current when your engine turns off. Because when its running the current is somewhere between 13 and 14 and when you turn it off its running off the battery which makes 12ish. I have this power inverter that'll turn itself off when it senses that. My capacitor does the same thing too.

when you cut the ignition, you cut the lighter power for a split second.
same as when you are cranking the car, the radio and wipers cut out.
