91 YJ Master cylinder connection

I just replaced clutch and slave cylinder on my 91 YJ 4.0. The master cylinder line looks to have a quick disconnect fitting where it connects to the line going into the slave cyl. Does anyone know how to release that fitting so I can connect it to the new slave cyl. The fitting looks to be black plastic and is about 2in long. Thanks, Matt:

Im having the same problem. I have a 93. If you figured it out, give me a yell, will you? I think it has some tabs or something. I bought a new line and will have it tomorrow. If i figure it out, i'll let you know. I made a post close to yours.

Re: 91 YJ Master cylinder connection

I am afraid that the slave unit on my 92 is bad. I have no clutch but I am able to pump it. The master is full. Did you have any luck with the line replacement?

Re: 91 YJ Master cylinder connection

Hey Eraserhead,

I doubt if it is your slave cyl. The master can still be full of fluid and be no good. mine was. I did get a new line at the dealer for only 150.00! ha Some plastic and 2 fittings. I was still glad to get though. The quick disconnect was actually pretty easy to take apart. Just dont force anything. Put some pent. oil on it and wiggle slightly forward. There are 3 tabs on the inside, sliding the the plastic sleve will compress the tabs for removal. Similar to a fuel filter replacement. Just dont force it!!!

Re: 91 YJ Master cylinder connection

its been a while since i worked on a yj, but i believe there is a small roll pin that holds the line in place. its tiny and hard to get to, but push(or pull) it out, then pull the line straight out.
