Does a single year have two or three bulb, Tail Lights?

I don't have access to my car, it's at a friends in another county. I'm looking at tail lights on the internet. Mine is a 1997. The light fits 97-99.

From what I can see, there is a two bulb, and a three bulb, tail light assembly.

Does a year have two, and another year has three? Or does some have two, and some have three within the same year?
Anybody know what a 1997 has?

I would just go and look, but I don't have a car to drive over and check.
Thank you,
Chris.

Re: Does a single year have two or three bulb, Tail Lights?

I have a '97 Buick Lesabre Ltd. On the trunk panel you have 2 lamps right and left for the decorative tail light illumination, 2 lamps for tag lights, 2 lamps for backup lights, total for that panel 8. Tail light assembly attached to quarter panels includes 2 bulbs each, 1 is for tail light/turn signal and the other is for brake light. Rear panel accessible thru the inside of the trunk, 8 nuts securing the panel. Poor design, but gives you the opportunity to check for evidence of rust you can't normally see from the outside. If I have one or more to replace, I replace them all with Long Life bulbs.

Rockauto.com shows only the same taillight from 97-99.

The housing (and socket) holds a 3357 bulb with two filaments, brake and running light and holds a 194 type bulb for the side marker part of the housing.

Thanks for the replies, I don't see the "3 bulb" models on ebay anymore. Maybe a type o or something.
Chris.
