2002 Montana Water Pump

Hi there can someone show me where the waterpump is located and what are steps to replac eit. Also where can one find the thermostat sicne doing this mightas well replace.

If this is like my 2000, the water pump is a cinch. It's located pretty much right up front. I would suggest either buying a Haynes Manual (available at most auto parts stores) or a subscription to alldatadiy.com.

The thermostat is another story. It's very difficult to get to. You have to remove a bunch of stuff. I wouldn't do it if it isn't necessary.

Thanks for reply okay one last question how can one tell if your vehicle is 2WD or 4WD was asked this when asked how much for a waterpump and not sure what I have.

Two things come to mind. First, I think the All Wheel Drive has an emblem that says "AWD". Second, the store where you buy the waterpump should be able to tell from the VIN number. Have that available.

I have this from a 99...same engine.

www.rockauto.com lists an "optional severe duty" pump ($34 ) ....in addition to the standard one ($18) ....it is possible this pump was installed with the 4WD model...I do not know......

Okay wasn't water pump seems that it was lower rad hose clamp rusted and snapped in half so was leaking leaked more when cold outside not sure why though.Everyghing went good replace criped clamps with better ones that use scredriver so stopped leak. Probelmw as no hot air unless car is driven but idleing no hot air. read that if you turn the samll screw on top of the
t-stat housing turn the small middle screw left until coolant comes out . I did this but same so did again and stil ame did once more but srew came out and fell down onto engine block somewhere can't find it moved van used magnet but can't find it. Where can one find this screw and what size is it or must if be ordered from dealer. What can I use temporaily till I get this will it harm driving if no scre in place will rad fluid come out of here.

That screw is for bleeding air out of the system if there is air in there. The air can block the coolant from traveling through the system properly.

Yes, coolant will leak out of there pretty fast.

I hate to say it, but you're going to have to find the screw or get another from the dealer.

Let me restate your problem and see if I have it right. When the van is completely warmed up, you get heat while driving but the heat blows cold when you come to a stoplight. Is that right?

That sounds like it might be a restriction of some sort. Have you tried a really good flush and fill? There could be some sediment that restricts the flow of coolant to the heater core.

Do you know when the coolant was last flushed out and replaced?

I have had the van about 2.25 years haven't had oen done so not sure when van has 97500 Km on it. Will go out there today use some air on it and see if screw falls down or not if not any ideas what size it is so I can plug it up til I get one from dealer?

I would probably take an assortment of machine screws and stuff out with me and keep experimenting until I found something that fits until I could get to the dealer.

Okay if I find a screw that fits bit in don't want to screw up threat even if it leaks abit is it okay to drive 10 min to dealership to get new one would this harm van or cause it to overheat.
