First start question.
I just completely rebuilding my 6 bolt motor for the past 2 years and today i started it up and it ran fine but it idled at 2000 rpm so i shut it off, it ran for only about 20 seconds until i shut it off and found a coolant leak. but is that normal for it to idle so high?

Re: First start question.
Adjust your throttle until you get it down to more like 700rpm. Then if it stalls out on you, adjust the cam angle sensor. It will take a bit of playing to get everything just right. You've got a timing light for this I'm assuming?

Re: First start question.
No this was not a stock build. it has eagle rods, wiseco pistons, bc 272, bc springs w/ ti retainers, ferrea bronze guides, stainless valves, ferrea valve locks, arp rod, main, head bolts, act 2600, gates racing timing belt. i think that is it for the performance stuff but the rest is oem.
I do have a timing light, i did not let it run for very long b/c the oil pressure gauge that i have is not working so i got to get a new one today. The biss screw is almost all the way in. When i get a new gauge i will let it run. |

Re: First start question.
what kind of engine management of fuel controls are you running? It's not normal. are you running a mas?

Re: First start question.
i have a mas on there. I did not put any management on there yet i was waiting to see if it ran first. There is a new problem, i got a new oil pressure gauge and when i started it the gauge went from 0 all the way past 100, and it blew the filter gasket. It ran for about a total of 3 seconds, anyone know what is wrong?

Re: First start question.
It's not at all uncommon for oil pressure to be over 100 at idle when cold. Make sure the filter is a good one (OEM, Pure1, etc) and is tight enough. Also, if you have the 91-99 oil sandwich cooler, make sure the oil filter stud is about 24 ft-lbs and no more! 24mm deep socket. The gasket behind that is the same as an oil filter gasket.

Re: First start question.
I found the problem, it was the pressure relief valve stuck closed.
