96 Jimmy won't start
I just bought a used 96 Jimmy. I replaced the starter and battery as noted problems. Yesterday I tried starting the Jimmy I heard the priming and the click and nothing. Fidgeted the key a bit and presto it turned over. Drove it a bit, turned it off for 20 minutes and it turned over no problem. Interesting note is that when I put the signal on the battery meter flucuated each time the signal went off.
This morning I tried again and the same issue. Primed fine and the click. No issues with power for the radio, lights or anything else. Did not turn over. Not even a chug. lol One other thing I noticed is that with the key in the forward position the battery meter was at a quarter. My lease on my civic ended at christmas and I was hoping this Jimmy would see me through a year while the recession is going on. You just never know if your job is safe during these times. Your help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: 96 Jimmy won't start
When you replaced the battery, did you check that all the connections were clean and tight? Sounds like it loses contact intermittently.
Of course, it could be the ignition switch failing or lock cylinder being worn out, too.

Re: 96 Jimmy won't start
As said battery and cables and ends pos. and grounds first check.
Good and 12 volt to STARTER AND FUZE BOX AND IGN SWITCH?. The starter circuit starts at ign switch to crank fuse to neutral safety switch and to starter relay and on to starter solenoid. Check starter solenoid purple wire for 12 volts key on crank position. If no 12 volts there work back to relay and neutral saftey switch and crank fuse and to ign switch and Post back where or what is losing it. If 12 volts on purple wire and battery and cables are good starter should crank. If it just clicks with 12 volts on it and battery is up and cables are good both post and ground better go for another starter. Also if after market remote start or anti theft?
