twisted exhaust

I have a question. I've seen those tricked out crx/hatch cars with the exhaust/muffler coming out diagonally out the back of the car (unlike the stock (2) 90 degree angles). Now, i'm not one of those people who get into it and gut out the whole interior to save weight and what not. So i'm wondering if it is that big of a hp gain to put on one of those exhausts, because i like how the tip of the muffler comes straight out the back of the car. But if it comes down to it and those 90 degree bends are killing me concidering hp, then i'll get rid of that stock bend. please fill me in

You don't gain really anything by making it come out diagonally. I would just mount it straight. If you have a header and full exhaust you might gain a 1/10 of a 10 in the quarter. So basically bring it out straight.

Oh most people can't bring their muffler out straight b/c of clearance issues, so thats why the muffler is diagonally.

yeah man, my car is soon to be slammed, so i wouldn't be able to run it straight. so with the gain not being to big, i guess i'll stick with the stock positioning

Cut your bumper, and fiberglass the other side. It'll look nice if you do a good job.

they do it because the exit is after 2 90 degree bends and if you have just one 120 degree bend it's alot better for the exhaust flow. i'd make drawings but not in the mood but it has a lot to do with wanting to straight pipe and it's more power if it's a less of an angle.

the truth is on a stock honda a header, and a full exhaust will not do much at all for horsepower (at least its not worth the 1000 bucks you will spend doing it.) so in the long run the bend in the pipe has no significant gain or loss. really the only time a bend in a pipe would matter is on a high horsepower engine. now if you put a lot of money into an engine swap than a full exhaust system would be worth it, but on a stock system, its more for sound, and looks. oh i forgot if you plan on building your current engine up then its also worth it. i mean really lets break it down:

full exhaust - 700 (header-tail)
header - 300 (lets say a DC header)

total -1000

(these prices are examples)

all for 10-20 horsepower. in a honda you probaly wont even notice a diffence.

I think that your a bit high. You can get a decent muffler for $50...go to a exhuast shop and they're bend you a cutsom exhaust for about $100. So your at $150. Get a decent header $200-250. Your done and your at about $350-400. It does make a difference. I've seen a full exhaust with a decent header take a second off 1/4 time.
