'82 Olds Ciera Idling really high

Hey, I am new to Automotive Forums. I am looking for some help with my '82 olds. It usually idles inbetween 1000 and 2000 rpms on a regular day until it warms up. Keep in mind that it is winter where I am. Last night, and this morning I went to start it and it slowly worked its way up to 3000 rpms, and looked like it was going to keep going up. I shut it off and gave it a few minutes and restarted it and it went straight for 3000 rpms. I didn't give it any time to warm up because it sounds like I was about to blow the engine right out of the car. Does anyone have any ideas what it could possibly be? It ran fine all day yesterday until I got in it last night. Thanks

Welcome to AF .Bad or gummed up idle air control, throttle body. BTW, always post engine size.
