944 cuts off

1986 944 2.5L, cut off on me, it will crank up and run for 5 or6 min. then dies. let it sit and it will do the same. have replaced plugs, wires, coil, dist. cap, and rotor. also replaced the temp. sensor. checked all the fuel and it is up to the specs. any help?

The computer makes the fuel injectors open and close so you might check the wires to the injectors, assuming the car won't start right back up. If it does you'll probably have to have the car checked on a machine. You can check the voltage on the fuel injector wires if it doesn't start immediately to see if it is grounding on the ground side thru the computer.

Did you get this fixed? Mine was doing the same thing. It turned out to be the DME relay in the fuse box. It's a very fickle relay. I've replaced it a couple times with rather disappointing results. I ended up running a couple wires from the relay area to a switch in the cabin. It works just like a kill switch. The killer is that if I forget to turn it off then the computer and the fuel pump run non-stop... kills the battery really fast.

Anyway, hope it helps if it's not too late!
