2000 VW Beetle Immobilizer Problem

I have a 2000 VW Beetle with the 2.0 auto trans. I don't have the original key for the car but the door switch for the alarm has not been a problem and the alarm is not sounding. The only indicator of the problem is the immobilizer light in the instrument cluster showing the immobilizer is shutting the engine off just after it starts. I have tried to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and have also scanned the computer with an OBD2 scanner searching for codes which there are none. Is there a way to disable the immobilizer circuit or at least troubleshoot the circuit without having to take this to the dealer.
