Made offer on EF SiR

To those in the know, made serious offer on the EF SiR conversion doing the rounds on PF. Opinions?

Not yet, soon I hope. In the next two weeks. Have made an offer the guy will accept though and loan, so all signs are promising. Not to mention that he hasn't had any other bites, so I've already got it significantly lower than what was advertised.

How goes it BTW?

things are alright....got the extractors welded again on monday...crack on the bottom....but my cousin has put in a bracket to bolt on to the engine, as that's the reason why was having issues with them....missing bracket.

all fixed....other than that...back to work today..which was alright...doing admin stuff all day.

How's it going chucky? If this EF comes through (or if I have to hunt down a good SX Rolla in the tradingpost) another cruise is imminent.

sigh - it's an ED, not an EF

looks ok except that the ride height may need to be raised to stop it from being cop bait

LOL - it doesn't even have the EF series bumpers on it - not even from the XT25 :P:P:P

It's an ED

BTW Oz - is this the one that's in Melbourne?

A couple of things, I'm guessing you've been pretty thorough but...

When a car comes from Vic to Syd it must be blue slipped and then RTA checked. Part of the blue slip is checking that it has been engineered and if the mounts awe welded in EF mounts you could be ok, but if the US made place and hasport mounts are used, they do NOT meet Aussie ADRs. Brakes are SiR I think... I hope, because if not you are again in trouble as the ED ones are tiny and the car must be comprehensively engineered, not just the engine.

Ok - if it has an engineer's cert you are 80% ok, but remember - NSW has very tight laws whereas Vic is notoriously lax. I'd hate to see you buy a car that is perfectly registerable in one state, but not in your home state. If it runs a pod filter then that has to go - most do not meet ADRs in NSW.

I'm not trying to piss on your parade - just warning you that what is ok in Vic is not ok in NSW. Dropped suspension and big exhaust may also lead to problems that you will have to fix. Check it all out carefully - I'd hate to see you sink money into it and then have a canary fixed to the winshield.

One last point: Insurance.

The hybrid is a modified car. Looks like everything on it has been modded - with my SiR as an import I was looking at phenomenal insurance rates and I'm over 35 with a sound driving record in terms of no accidents in over 10 years. When I tried to insure it as a "modified" Civic - the rates were even worse. Failure to disclose any of the mods - even mag wheels, stereo etc can and will void the policy so don't try and play down what has been done. Stay clear of the young and the whatever insurance company - they are crooks who will take you for every cent you have and give you nothing if u get involved in an accident etc.

Go for it if it's what you want... but just make sure it doesn't break you financially or end up off the road.

Cheers
Pete

Thanks for that Pete. It is in Melbourne, which made me seriously reconsider. I think I will probably go with a Rolla SX. If the guy still has it for sale (at heavily discounted price ), I will fly down for ~$65 and drive it back.

No worries Oz. It's just worth thinking about. I mean 2 years ago I got the SiR rego'd Vic to NSW with blueslip etc... but they couldn't fault the engineering for some reason.

If you want it then go for it... but the insurance could be the biggest issue unless u go 3rd party fire and theft
