Need help to id this part

Hello All

Not familiar with this part on the 1998 LTC so I will ask. Location passenger side, rear, corner, intake manifold area. I found it to be loose and un plugged while looking at something else. I didn't know it was like that, it's good to discover things. First of all what is it, and why dis connect it ? Hopefully not one of the busted intake manifold problems. See link for pic.

Re: Need help to id this part

Does the 98 have have individual coil packs per cylinder? I'll have to take a closer look. I haven't done much with this one yet. I still need that big fuse panel for under the hood. I would like to get it running and check every thing out by spring. I've made some good progress in the last few months with getting some old jobs finished up and out of here. I've got another big load of scrap that I am planning to load up tomorrow when the weather breaks. Two Lincolns two Grand Am's and a GMC truck cab, with as much junk as I can cram into them. I've got two more Lincolns, three more GM trucks, and a crappy Hyundai I would like to see stripped and gone by summer. That should free up some premo space around here.

Re: Need help to id this part

Yes this is a coil pack my guess is that if you disconected it you now have a missfire. Is your ck engine light on if so this could be the trouble. You sould be able to put the wire back on and tell if there is a change in the sound of the motor. (put the wire on and off with the engine running you should hear a change) if no change the coil pack may be bad. They just souldn't flop around in the hole and only one screw holds it in place. Autozone or Advanced should be able to tell you if the ck engine light is for the coil pack or not my guess it is. that is the number 4 cyl. hope this helps good luck

Re: Need help to id this part

Interesting, I will have to take a closer look at the coil packs. I sent you an e mail with my number, call me if you come up with anything.

My days of searching junk yards all over the country are just about over. It's always very hard to find what I am looking for. The parts are usually too old, too new, or too odd. I checked 2 of the ones I usually deal with and they don't have the 98 Lincoln distribution box. One wanted to sell me one from a 98 merc, but without eyeballing it my self, I can't say to cut it out for me. They are not very good at pulling the right parts any way. Hell the part might be from a Honda or something. I've never bought anything from them that was correct so far. Those guys are also very secretive about what they have in their yard. I liked the old time ones where you wander around for hours by your self. I go to one yard that by buddy's cousin owns, it's a fairly good haul from the house, but he has all that good old 80's stuff that I love.

I was hoping that I could adapt the power box from one of the older models The Ford wiring diagrams I have aren't very good, and wiring the relays is the problem. I don't know if the 98 even has the relays in that box like the 93 box I would use.

Re: Need help to id this part

Took a closer look and sure enough, it is a coil pack. Some one has robbed the first three and was on the way to the fourth on passenger side. The driver side has all the coils intact. So make that 3 coil packs and one distribution box. Seems like a lot of trouble to see what's still good on this car, by get her running again.
