1994 Chevy Suburban problems, help!!!

We recently just had the transmission in our Suburban rebuilt, I mean like within this past week it was finished this Friday!!! Anyhow it was working fine, that night and early Saturday morning then when we went to go out the truck doesnt want to shift gears again like it was doing before the trany got fixed!! The person who did it for us is saying that our torque converter is bad and we need a new one. My brother-in-law says its because the person who did it didn't fill the torque converter back up before he put it back in!!! Now I am wondering do you think that is the problem or could it be something more...???

Could be the person that rebuilt or the person that installed it.

Did you flush the transmission rad cooler when you installed it?
Does it have reverse?
Is low gear slipping or solid.
Can you manual shift it threw the gears.
Is it locked in second gear?
Is the fluid level good?
Full hot in park engine running?
Any check engine lights or blown fuses?
Check you electrical wiring and plugins.
Is the speedo working?
Why did the rebuilder not install a good quality rebuilt converter when he rebuilt it.
You also need to get it on a transmission capable scanner and check shifting data and for codes.
Post back any codes.
Was it a complete rebuild or just a patch or kit job?
What all was bad and what all was replaced with the rebuild?
Got any warranty on it?

A new torque converter should have been installed to go along with the rebuilt tranny unless you specifically opted to not do it...I see no real cost advantage during a rebuild to NOT replace it. I'd go back & ask why they didn't do it in the first place.

Like MT said, a tranny capable scanner is needed to diagnose the problem. It sounds like your transmission (4L60E) is in "limp home" mode for one of what could be many reasons stored as a code in the PCM. Could be as simple as a faulty shift solenoid, or low fluid. In any case, the shop has some "splainin'" to do. Good luck!
