Unhappy 94 Lesabre turns it self off and back on????

Hello Everyone,
I'm writing to see if anyone else has ever had this problem on their car.
While driving with the vehicle on at any speed the vehicle will shut itself
off to the point where it turns the radio off as if removing the batt. and reconnecting it.

Simply put: It is running and shuts off and comes back on by itself.

If anyone has ever had this problem please let me know what caused this problem. It started about 1 week ago.

From what you said and I could be wrong here, it sounds like your car is still running but everything else shuts off.

Am I correct?

If this is indeed the case it sounds like you have a bad ground connection. Once you fix your ground your stuff should stay on. It could be that your current ground connection became rusted and fell off or something to that effect.

cheap and easy fix if that is your issue.

Remove & clean both battery terminals, inside & out. Be sure to remove the insulators & clean in-between the terminals. The side post terminals are notorious for building corrosion & losing contact.

Re: 94 Lesabre turns it self off and back on????

I just went through what you and many many others have experienced, judging by the posts in this forum. My 95 LeSabre started out with just a small stumble and no codes, then to a momentary loss of power and restart. As time went on the problem got worse, to the point it would just die and set codes P0341 and 361, although sometimes no codes were set. To make a long story short the first thing I did was clean all the grounds, especially the ones under the ICM, the plate the ICM is mounted on, the area between the mounting plate and bracket, and the mating surfaces on the inner fenderwell grounds as well. The next thing were the crank and cam sensors. None of this helped. Out of frustration I snipped all of the ground connectors and replaced them even though at first glance they did not appear to be corroded. That fixed the problem. This problem stumped myself and my mechanic for quite some time. As I said the ground connectors appeared to be in excellent condition with no visible signs of corrosion, yet when the wires were stripped for repair they were oxidized black approx. two inches down inside the insulation. hope this helps

Which ground connectors did you find the oxidation on? How did that oxidation affect the connection when it was 2 inches down into the wire inside the insulation?

Re: 94 Lesabre turns it self off and back on????

follow the thinner black wire off the battery negative post, it connects to a stud on the passenger side inner fender right next to the battery, there are three other black wires on the same stud, these are the grounds for the PCM (on-board computer) replace the connecters on these grounds, as well as the connectors on the grounds located on the studs under the ICM coil pack (2 tan and white wires + 3 black wires). also, be sure and clean the other grounds I mentioned in the post. it is an easy job and will save you $$$ and headaches. to answer your other question, the oxidation was not readily visible on the connectors but it was there, I only discovered it when I cut the connecters and stripped the wires, that's what made it so frustrating, you could not tell the connecters were corrded just by looking at them, had I known this I would have replaced them immediately instead of just cleaning the mating surfaces. Any other time I encountered corroded connectors you could tell just by looking at them, not so in this instance.
