99 Grand Cherokee front end noise
Hello,
I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It makes a terrible grinding noise when under way in 2 wheel drive. The noise seems to be coming from axil and goes away in 4 wheel. I pulled the cover off the front dif. and there are no obvious signs of damage. Any ideas? I was wondering if I had a bad hub or something. Thanks Wes |

Re: 99 Grand Cherokee front end noise
Its me again I can see the end of the axil shaft in the passeger side. I don't see the end of the shaft on the drivers side. is this normal? I wouldn't think so. my guess is that I have a broken axil. any thoughts? Wes

Re: 99 Grand Cherokee front end noise
Update, to those who are watching. in May of 2008 we had the front axles replaced. Come to find out, the put the wrong one in on the drivers side. It was to short and only just barley engaged in the splines at the differential. The splines finally gave way and stripped. They are replacing it for free. Should have it back tomorrow. Wes

Re: 99 Grand Cherokee front end noise
Good news that they stand behind their work. Glad it'll be good to go soon.
