Question L3 Si trans into 5G 4door?

Hey what's up - I'm giving my friend with a 95 Civic DX automatic the Trans, clutch, flywheel, and clutch cable out of my 90 CRX Si. I had a question about it mounting fine to the 5G chasis. I know that the trans will mate to his d15b7, but will it mount using the stock mounts for his car? I'm not sure of this. I'm giving him all of these parts to do his stick conversion because he's doing my b16 transfer into my 90 from my 89 (and is transferring suspension components as well). any help is appreciated

I'm pretty sure 92+ were Hydro Trans and therefore the Cable tranny from a Pre-92 will not work, even if it will bolt up.

ok, the l3 SI tranny will fit & bolt up onto any D series motor combo's but the problem you will find with that tranny is that it is cable actuated.
and the 5g is hydro..

there are a few possiblities :

-use 4g clutch pedal / gas pedal / brake pedal assembly if it fits.....
-use 4g clutch cable
-make sure 4g tranny has bracket for cable
-shift linkages from 4g&5g are the same from what ive seen
and both will fit either/or tranny

OR :
you have to get the pedal assembly from the 5g
-install the clutch pedal to "hydrolic pump"
-run hydrolic lines you pull from the donor car... etc.......

Ive done a auto/manual conversion on a 90 CRX dx, before so If you have any other problems just post a forum, or pm me......

:smoker2: pass that :alien:

yeh, the 92+ were hydro...but since his car is currently automatic, we're going to convert it to stick using a cable trans. i know this has been done. Im just not sure if the his 5G trans mount will work

We're going to be using the Si clutch cable, and pedal box along w/ the Si trans. I know we can make all of that work...it's just were not sure if the trans mount is the same.

the 4g l3 tranny will fit up into the 5g.

IF you can get the clutch pedal assembly to fit in there your set...
everything else will be a bolt up!

if you use the 4g tranny the main issue will be the clutch pedal assembly. and routing the clutch cable...

IM 100% sure that the tranny FITS, but you may need the brackets/mounts from a 5g standard tranny.....the automatics may FIT but dont quote me on that .... when I did the conversion on the crx, I used all civic/crx mounts from a 5spd.

good-luck...

..sorry to go against everyone else here, but I'm 99% sure that the 88-91 tranny does not line up with any of the 3 mounts in the 5th gen chassis... the hydro/cable stuff is irrelevant, its the simple fact that it does not bolt in.

I say 99% b/c I've never experienced it myself...but after reading countless sites when doing my z6 swap and seeing that everyone who put up sites says that the 92-95 tranny does not fit in the 88-91 chassis...so I assume it applies vice versa.

Why dosen't he spend the $200 and get a 5G tranny ? It would be much easier. The L3 might mount up on the top and rear but the front won't for sure. Oh the auto and manual tranny mounts are different (pretty sure). Just go to the junyard and get a 5g tranny with mounts.
