Just bought a used 2000 PA, 160K miles. A few issues that I have good ideas on how to fix thanks to the forum members. One item though still remains. When I pull back on the Multi Function switch to turn on high beam, the lights come to high beam, I get the high beam symbol on the dash, but the stalk does not click or allow high beams to remain on without holding the MF stalk in the high beam position. Anyone ran into this one? I'm thinking this is a mechanical issue with the MF stalk. Otherwise, cruise, wipers, etc. work fine.
One other broad question...Recommendations on how to get the maintenance up to speed on a high mileage vehicle like this? I'm referring to oil additives to clean the engine of deposits and also transmission additives before flushing or dropping the pan. |

Would the MF switch replacement be a DIY type of repair?
Does this forum recommend a website for parts purchases based on good customer service, etc? I know there are several out there from which to choose. |

Update: I found out that if you give the MF switch a decent shove with the palm of your hand it will engage again to hold the high beam position. I'm sure I still need a new switch, but for now it's operating as normal. Just an FYI in case someone else runs into this.

My problem with my 98 PAU is that the MF switch works except for my cruise control not working( turning on most times) and also the part of the switch for the washer fluid never works.

yes those p.a. are bad about those switches going out sometimes you switch from low beams to high it will work but the next time you switch from low beams to high then you have no high beams and your in the dark.

I have already had my MF switch replaced, but due to the canceling cam failing (the left turn signal would not cancel on it's own). I don't know whether it was a DYI-type issue. I had mine repaired under an extended warranty through my mechanic. I'm getting the sense that the MF switches are a little finicky on these cars.
As for the high-mileage additives for engine oil...as luck would have it, I was just at my mechanic's shop today for an oil change and I asked him about that very thing. My PA has just under 109K on it and it has been very regularly maintained. I asked the mechanic if the "high mileage" oil is worth the cost. He said it isn't. He said that proper maintenance and care of the car is what makes the difference...that a high mileage car can run forever on regular oil, as long as it's changed regularly. He did recommend that I have my fuel injection system cleaned, however. He said that this can extend the life of the injection system. Hope this helps. Cheers!
