1997 Maxima SE vs. Eagle Talon TSi

Some kid I met at a party saw my maxima (completely stock) and asked me how I liked the car, if it's quick, etc. etc. Upon answering his question, he challenged me to race him in his Talon for some cash. I know the TSi is a turbo-charged. Do I stand a chance or should I go for it? His Talon is also stock.

What year is his car? If its 90's then its the same body as Mitsu Eclipse. In that case I think that talon is awd, and I think you dont stand a chance in "of the line" race. IF his car is awd it will have better traction off the line and he'll own you upto 60mph then you will start pulling on him. If you do a race on the roll for example from 50 or 60 mph till like 120mph you will probably win. Im not sure tho. Get more info on his engine. I dont know if its a 4 or 6 cylinder. If its a 4 you got a pretty big chance. Also it deppends how heavy it is also. Also it deppends if its a stick or auto and style of his driving also matters. Well its only MY opinion. Dont rely on it just take the info under consideration. hehe Hope this helps.

Its definitely a Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. They never put 6-cyl engines in gen 1 and gen 2 Talons and Eclipses. The bodies are also the same for these two generations minus some trim panels.

If the kid doesn't have a boost controller, your car will still have a bit of a time keeping up. There's a good possibility you could beat him, but it will be close.

If he has a boost controller, don't waste your money, he will roast you. A Boost controller allows him to manually increase the maximum boost up to about 15 PSI from about 11 PSI (stock boost). The extra 4 PSI will get him up to well over 200hp and 220 ft-lbs of torque (which is around stock for gen 2).

For more info on Eagle Talons and Mitsu Eclipses, go to www.dsm.org

Gotta get some mods man, You don't stand a chance if your stock bud. I would consider Intake, exaust, and Y-pipe if you wanna talk kicking his ass

Forget the whole exhaust, all you need is the Y-pipe, then the intake. That should bring up and flatten out your torque curve pretty nicely.

What kind of y-pipe did you get? Are you getting a WAI or CAI?

Honestly, if you go stock vs stock, you're going to get beat!

Either way -- from a stop or roll! The 4G63(engine code) is a very potent engine right from the factory, trust me, I know!

They run low 15's to high 14's easy! I'd wait to get some mods as well before racing him, or you can just race for the hell of it and see how you fair! Then come back with some mods!

Agreed, those cars are fuckin quick as hell. Especially if its early 90's generation. They are AWD and Turbo, that combo = ownage. Are you sure he's stock? He can do shit for free to that engine to make it so much faster.

no dude, don't listen to all them...if you have the same transmission types, it will be a dead race, and come down to the driver. the cars run almost exactly the same 0-60 and 1/4 times. get a good launch, and you will be able to take him. but basically, it is a drivers race, assuming the trannys are the same

Thrasher is right. It all deppends on the driver. If hes a moron, then 200 shot NoS tank wont help him either. I saw some video on the track and there was some hardcore hooked up civic. Not like street civic, it was completely rebuilt for 1/4 races with slicks and everything. Driver stalled the car right on the start line. Some people cant drive for shit. But Ill say one more thing. That guy in Talon DOES have a privelege of awd.

whoever wins, is more than likey going to have the opposing car right at their quarter panel. you might lose, you might win but neither car will get "smoked"

Now that sounds logical
