93 Chevy Lumina 3.1

My 3.1 lumina heat gage says its hot--red dash light also on. The primary fan is coming on late. When it does come on, it solves the problem-gage returns to middle and no red warning light. If I run ac, the primary fan comes on earlier and I have no problem. I have replaced the thermostat, replaced the fan sensor, and replaced the intake gasket. Any ideas or suggestions?

Re: 93 Chevy Lumina 3.1

Welcome to AF.

When you replaced the sensor, did you replace the one in the intake near the thermostat (that's the one for the ECM and fan control), or the one in the rear cylinder head (that's the one for the guage)? Also, did you apply any kind of thread sealer to the sensor? If you did, and the sealer isn't electrically conductive (ex, white teflon tape is not), then you may be getting a bad ground to the sensor.
