Arrow '89 Caprice 305 TBI Problem......

My car's been sitting for a while and I can't get it running again. I did however manage to start it once but I noticed the Catylic Converter was glowing red. There was still exhaust coming out of the tailpipe so I'm sure it's not plugged up. My friend says it could be off timing and is dumping too much fuel in the engine. Anyone got any clues? Thanks.

I think if its glowing red then it means its plugged...theres a way to check and see by drilling a hole in it and inserting a pressure gauge. I'm not sure exactly what pressure to look for. But then of course you'd have to weld teh whole. You can have a shop do it but idk the cost.

when the cat is glowing red you have unburned gases entering the exhaust..the purpose of the cat is to burn this off....

I WOULD CHECK ALL PLUGS WIRES DISTRIBUTOR THE CARB AND VAPOR CANNISTOR HOSES ....

if the cannister hoses of the gas vapor system are full of fuel a valve diaphram has ruptured..
