Fastner Question

I am trying to replace back up bulbs on trunk lid . Is there a tool to remove the liner fastners? They wont come out by lifting off of liner. Called NAPA and they said no tool exsists and to use a screwdriver. T.I.A.

Re: Fastner Question

I'm not sure what year you're working on and which fasteners you're talking about. If you're referring to the little plastic press-in rivet thingies, there are tools for removing them. The common tool is similar to a brake spoon or very small crow bar with a gap in the flat surface to straddle the rivet. There are also pliers style removers that pop the rivets out by squeezing the handles. Often you can pull them out with just the panel.

There are also some retainers that are threaded on to studs, I'm not sure which style you're dealing with.

Re: Fastner Question

FYI: You can find inexpensive fasteners replacements at Lowe's/Home Depot.

Re: Fastner Question

Thanks for the reply and parts info. I was able to locate a tool at a local parts supply house for $14. Dont believe a parts man at N.A.P.A, which in past have been very good but exspensive. I removed top of trunk liner to replace back up bulbs and disable remote as per relamping rear end. It only took about 4 trips to parts stores to get correct bulbs and tool. The rear directionals(AMBER BULBS) were particulary hard to locate for some reason, sold out at most chains. Had to go to NAPA to get bulbs but were not same part # as OEM. Seem to work fine I guess it could be a slight difference in wattage rattings. All bulbs for rear (except LIC PLATE LT) at AUTOZONE were listed as same part #. Dont trust their info. A.C. ED
