93 Lesabre Cranks but won't start

Hey all...

This Lesabre has 55k miles ONLY on her. It was my mother-in-laws car. It sat for many months. I jumped it and got it here in the summer. It sat for another month. Went out to start it in th summer and it would crank but not fire.

Got working on it yesterday. I want to get this car running so I put a timing light on plugs 1,3,5 and nothing.

Had the ICM tested at AZ, checks out good. Checked the resistance on each coil pack and if I am doing it right (the ICM and coil packs out of the car)...they are all dead with 0 ohms on the secondarys and .2 to .4 on the primaries. On the primaries though I can get some rather crazy readings if I moved my probes around on the terminals. Is it possible all coils can be dead at the same time? Seems highly unlikely.

I tested the coils per this link:

http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com...hp?f=48&t=1683

Thanks!
BillyD

You may have corrosion on the ICM terminal, or a bad ground connection under the ICM. The procedure for testing the coils should be good; like you said, not likely all three are bad. I prefer to use a paper clip inside the primary terminals, it’s more reliable. Go through the procedure again and be sure you have the meter set correctly when testing the primary & secondary.

Thanks HotZ! I did use a paper clip on the primaries and man...I checked and double-checked my meter many times as I couldn't believe my readings were so low! However, I will do it again!

In addition to what you mention and I will check for sure (ground/corrosion), there's not a fuse involved somewhere is there? Do ya actually think the CKPS is shot with these low miles (considering the car has been sitting though of course)?

Thanks!

Re: 93 Lesabre Cranks but won't start

I have read that if the injectors are not pulsing- that the crank position sensor is bad- it feeds both the ignition module and the PCM info they need. If only there was no spark and the injectors are pulsing- then look for the problem to be in ignition-either coil or ignition module- but if injectors also do not fire- then must be a CKP- My co-worker just went through this on his '92 Lesabre- the injectors not firing lead him to the CKP after he had replaced the igntion module and coils. (he had read about it too late). You can test injectors by using a side marker lite (197) and bend the wires to plug into an injector connector- if light lights, then injectors are receiving pulses. You might want to try this test.

Dang...I was wondering how to test if the CKPS was dead! Awesome.

Thanks!

Wouldn't any 12v light work that had wires to insert into the injectors? I have some 12V DC outside yard lights that have wires coming off the bulbs...just curious.

Thanks!

Yes, fuse #6 feeds the ICM on the pink wire. Check to see if you have 12V (with igniton ON) to the ICM pink wire. Have you retested existing coils, or tried new ones?

No, haven't tested anything yet...I'm still working.

I think I looked at #6 but I'll look again.

If it snows here tomorrow, I'll be able to get back on it as I won't have to travel... (fingers crossed).

Thanks!

Angry Re: 93 Lesabre Cranks but won't start

Well...I do believe I found the problem and it's called fu----- squirrels!! How's that for a diagnosis! The li'l bastards ate though an injector wire, two spark plug wires and some wires in a wiring harness. I think that will about wrap us this thread!

Check out the pic...

What gage wire do I use to repair these..anyone know?

Thanks!

Re: 93 Lesabre Cranks but won't start

Soldered them all back up...replaced the spark plug wire and fired right up. Got a miss in her though...that's all I gotta figure out.

Thanks guys...you all are awesome and no chinchillas or nest! Li'l bastards!
