94 Camry 2.2L 180K Runs Rough @ High RPM

This vehicle runs fine under normal operating conditions but if the accelerator pedal is floored, the engine runs really rough, especially around 2800-3000 rpm. This just started doing this after filling up the gas tank. Could it be just bad gas or is it something else? Speaking of gas, is this vehicle supposed to run on premium or regular? Thanks.

Your car should run fine on regular unless you are hearing some pinging.

As far as the rough running when floored, check the ignition system components first. They are usually the first things to suspect when a car misses under load. Check spark plugs, check plug wires for too much resistance and check for plug wires with no resistance at all, meaning there is a break in the plug wire some place. Also check the distributor cap and rotor for excessive deposits and look at them carefully for hairline cracks. If these things check out ok, I would next check out the coil inside the distributor. You will need a digital volt/ohmeter and the specs from any manual to do this. There are Toyota factory service manuals stickied at the top of the Camry forum over at AutomotiveForums.com. Download the generation 3 manual. It is actually a 94 Camry manual.
