Re: Cork Intake Gasket?
I'm sure you've seen how they perform,(don't perform), as valve cover and oil pan gaskets.
Why would you want to use cork as a intake gasket ? |

Re: Cork Intake Gasket?
Just to add...cork is marginal in places where it just has to contain lube splash and zero pressure (the oil pan and rocker cover gaskets discnik mentioned above).
In the intake you have a double battle of the intake passage vacuum (below atmospheric) and the positive pressure of the cooling system (above atmospheric) which the gasket has to resist. Plus the dis-similar metals of iron and aluminum and the 45 degree geometry which adds a lot of extra creep which the gasket material must react to. The old cork gaskets I've removed were as brittle as a piece of mica...so I would not count flexibility as one of its strong suits.

Re: Cork Intake Gasket?
Wantabe,
Please try to keep all of your questions related to a 3100 V6 VIN "M" concerning intake and head gaskets, etc. to one thread. By running multiple posts/threads on what amounts to the same issue(s) all you are doing is causing confusion and possible redundant replies. I see a total count of at least 8 very recent posts on overheating, head gaskets and intake gaskets. ![]() Also, see our AF Community Guidelines. BE COURTEOUS: AVOID DUPLICATE POSTS Do not post the same discussion more than once on a discussion forum or on many forums. Duplicate discussions can be frustrating for other members, especially for those whose time and energy is limited. Weeding through the same discussion in multiple locations can be not only frustrating, but down right annoying. Duplicate discussions will be deleted. Reposting the same message repeatedly can be interpreted as SPAM and could result in the loss of your membership. Also be conscious of your fellow members and avoid making meaningless posts for the sole purpose of increasing your post count.
