Testing a Diode

I have a '91 S-10 4.3L. I'm trying to troubleshoot an A/C problem. I read up on testing diodes. The diode in the connection that snaps onto the A/C compressor give a reading on the meter both ways.

My question is - Can a bad diode cause the compressor from working?

Thanks! Kevin

Yes if it is shorting hot to ground.
Diodes are to let voltage threw on way.
To test it you need to remove it from wiring.

Re: Testing a Diode

A diode is basically a check valve for electricity. It allows current to flow only in one direction. Depending on how the circuit was designed, it may or may not stop the compressor clutch from engaging. Usually it's purpose is to stop current from flowing to other components in the circuit, that use the same wire.
