Weird No Start geniuses Please Help..
O.k... 2001 sable 3.0 dohc.. today,.. the most strange problem I'd faced on my car... I put the ignition key,.. turn the key,.. and nothing...
all my remote entry works,.. dome light works,.. even the headlight works.. what does not work,.. is the dash lights with all the warning signs and indicators,radio,.. etc,.. in simple words,.. all the function that needs to work with key in,.. does not work..including the windows.. and of course,.. the key does not crank at all.. dead..not even a click... I turn the key,.. and absolutely nothing.. with key in turned position,.. I'm able to change the gear selector,..tried in neutral,.. nothing.. no crank at all .... I don't even hear the fuel pump either..that used to give me for a second or so when key turned..??? I'd called the emergency road help,.. and the tech.. was a key specialist,.. and said.. the key is fine,( i thought it could be the chip insidewas bad,).. but could not figure out the problem.. spent almost an hour,.. checking some fuses, relays,.. etc,.. of course,.. it was getting dark.. and could not see too good,...lay out of the fuses may be helpful to locate the source of the problem.. did anyone out there have experienced such a problem in the past..?? my battery is good,.. remote entry works fine,.. it's like.. car does not recognize turn of the key in the ignition... help..!!!! asap..I guess this one would have to be a real tech or someone with such problem in the past... thanks in advance.. jc.. |

Re: Weird No Start geniuses Please Help..
I'll bet you dollars to donuts it is the ignition switch, electrical switch, not lock cyclinder. If you have a wiring diagram on the starting system check for power at your,"Start", and,"Run", wires
Sorry I do not have a wiring diagram for your vehicle here or I would send it to you. |

Re: Weird No Start geniuses Please Help..
Thanks for your reply..discnick... that will be a good start.. I'll buy a ignition switch today,.. and try with it first.. wish me luck.. I'm a midium wrencher,.. and I should be able to do it without sweating too much.. I suppose it's under the dash.... I just checked autozone site,.. and they have it there,.. don't know if any in stock,.. but I'll get it... and try that one first..
any possibility with the alarm system..?? .. when I put the key in,.. alarm light flashes,.. but not fast.. one blink every 2-3 seconds.. which is normal speed.. not warning,,our cars always did that.. I do not have any after market alarm..just lock/unlock remote opening of the doors.. or is there any circuit that could do this in the security section..?? just because of this in my mind,.. I had disconnected the battery for a few minutes,. and connected again,.. but nothing.. no fix.... I was hoping to reset most of the electrical circuits.... but no avail...I'll get the ing.. switch,..and try it first.. thanks a lot for your input..I'll post the outcome later on today..thanks... jc |

Re: Weird No Start geniuses Please Help..
O.K... guys.. I bought a ignition switch, and as I was getting things off,.. I found that the connector with cover on it.. inside was a bit lose,.. so I thought.. I found the problem.. reconnected it good,(might have been done by the tech yesterday.).. and tried to fire... nothing... I changed the ignition switch,.. nothing.. by this time I got really scared and frustrated,.... checked all the fuses where the tech had looked yesterday,.. all good.... well.. may be it was time to call a tow truck, to tow it to a dealer,.. and fork out hundreds of dollars...
I decided to open the hood,.. and check few things out,.. so I open the hood,. and checked in the fuse block.. just for hell of it.. and found two blown fuses... one big one,.. 40 amps,.. and one small one 20 amps.. and went back to the parts store,.. and bought them,.. and replaced them... BROOM>>>>>....... O.K.... fixed.. well took all day to do it... but learned something... put the old ignition switch back... and worked great... Verdict; lose connection on the ign. switch had blown the fuse somehow.... maybe a spark..?? hard to see,.. cause of the cover..but might have been done by the tech yesterday,.. as he was checking all key/ign..) but it's all good now,.. and re-tightened good,.. so it does not blow again.. I hope this thread helps somebody in the future,.. some money,.. and lot of time wasted,.. as my whole day was... Now I'm thinking... why did I not check the fuse box under the hood first,.. and save me a lot of time...??? Well.. we learn new things everyday........ jc.. |
