1985 F350 Clutch
The hydraulic clutch is too tight. It will not disengage to allow the vehicle to move when in gear. How can I get it to free up so I can adjust it?

Re: 1985 F350 Clutch
Did you bleed it when you installed the new clutch? Or is this a recent problem on an old clutch? Does it have the correct amount of brake fluid in it at this time?

Re: 1985 F350 Clutch
I did not install a new clutch. I was having problems with shifting after just purchasing vehicle. When I climbed under the truck I saw that the transmission bolts had loosened and the transmission was seperating freom the engine when the clutch pedal was pushed. So I tightened the bolts and it worked well for about a week. Then it started to act as if the clutch would not do as it should when the pedal was released. It required more RPM to get moving. I never bled the system, and don't know how to do so.

Re: 1985 F350 Clutch
Check the clutch master cylinder and make sure it has plenty of fluid. When you push the pedal does it have resistance or does it just go to the floor?

Re: 1985 F350 Clutch
I popped the cap off of the master cylinder, and it is full. There is resistance when the clutch is pushed, but not as much as before. When my wife pressed the pedal to the floor, and pumped it, there was no chnage in the fluid level or bubbles coming out.

Re: 1985 F350 Clutch
I don't have a solution for you, but ...
"When I climbed under the truck I saw that the transmission bolts had loosened" No, what you saw were the bolts that the guy that did a bad job of repairing the clutch never properly tightened. |
