Help Me!!

My high beams will not turn off in my 98 Intrigue. The only time they go off is during the day when my lights are off or when my car is completely shut off. Sometimes I can turn on the left turn signal and they will go off but they come back on after I turn. It got really cold here about -24 and that is when it started happening. At first they would just turn off when the car got warm, now they won't turn off at all. i am not really sure what to do about this. Help me please.

Re: Help Me!!

There should be a relay for the high beams. I believe it is in the fusebox under the hood. Id probably start by trying to swap it out with a known good relay. You could try the one from the low beams if they are working properly, or another of like size that you can live without for a few minutes.

If it turns out being a bad relay, Id avoid the dealership unless you want screwed. Some local auto shops may sell them. If not RockAuto looks like they sell most relays for 10-30 bucks.

Or you could volunteer to check the oil on one of your friend's GM vehicles of the same era.

Re: Help Me!!

Ok...apparently I was wrong, I really did think there was a relay for the headlamps. But theres not. Only for the fog lamps.

So do your low beams work properly? Or are they both on in the low position?

Sorry if I wasted any of your time. Maybe someone with some electrical skills can help you out. That person is not me though.

Re: Help Me!!

oh ok. everything else seems to be working fine as of right now. I am not sure though because it started happening recently. I haven't really had to time to examine everything.

Re: Help Me!!

Just an FYI...it was the signal switch that needed to be replaced. A pain to replace but nice to know I wasn't blinding people anymore
