How much do our cars REALLY weigh?

So I've heard/read that our cars "dry" weigh @ 2550#'s Well there's no way!

Devin and I corner weighted our cars today and both cars weighed in right @ 3100 with driver.
Devin weighed 3095-ish and mine was 3115 with @ 200lbs in the drivers seat.

Also, this was with almost NO gas in the car.

Re: How much do our cars REALLY weigh?

I agree-I corner weighted last week. After deducting driver and fuel at 6#/gal, my car came in calculated wet (all fluids with an empty fuel tank) at 2809#'s. I gave a glass windshield, plastic body parts and the 5.0 Explorer engine.

That sounds about right, the 5.0 is a little lighter and the plastic panels are probably a little lighter too.

Re: How much do our cars REALLY weigh?

Funny, people at the track always judge the car to be in the 2200# area. Then I always have to tell them the weight and that "oh by the way I only have 245 hp". That is when some are questioning why they aren't waxing me with their often near same weight, higher hp cars. Says alot for the Panoz.

Re: How much do our cars REALLY weigh?

It's your shitty fiberglass panels and that MASSIVE dohc motor I'm willing to bet a LSX swap nets you 200lbs or so.

We'll see how much ours weighs shortly w/ aluminum heads and a carb etc.

Eric, when we corner weighted my car (GTRA 302 with alloy headed carb conversion and single exhaust) using good old USA made Long Acre scales...............it came in at the following (in Kgs);

Dry as delivered With Driver and corner weighted

LF 287.5 331

RF 308 322

LR 277.5 316.5

RR 281 314.5

So 1154 Kgs or 2538lbs dry and 1284kg or 2824lbs with driver.

Must be dud scales you guys sold to us good old Kiwi's huh!?!

I will admit that we took a bit of weight (steel) out of the car but not more than 20lbs or so. This was also with glass screen and passenger seat in.

Re: How much do our cars REALLY weigh?

I rolled over the scales at Roebling @3100lbs. I don't know how much fuel was in the car. I found out later I had a 34 gallon tank. I have since done some things to lighten her up but haven't weighed her yet.

I'm not small either....

2550? Maybe without the engine.

It is very satisfying to pass higher horse power cars in the corners. I want to put a sticker on the back that says "230 Horse Power".

Just remembered why there was a 130kg difference between dry weight and with driver (no I am not 130kg...!!). The dry weight was done without the hood. So dry weight without driver was actually around 1179kg or 2593lbs. And yes, everything else was on the car.............engine was fitted!!

Re: How much do our cars REALLY weigh?

When I corner balanced my GT-RA it came in right at 3000 lbs. That included 1/2 tank of fuel and 190lbs for driver. So I think I'm right there with the other RA's. The thing that amazed me was that after setting ride height, the car was within 1% of being balanced for the first reading. It took one turn of the front shock ride height adjustment, and the car was 50-50.
After the first balancing I've changed over to alum heads, and a larger EFI intake. I'm probably 40 lb's lighter this year. When I break my windshield, I'll go to lexan and save another 25 lbs. I could take out the passenger seat and save 10 lbs, but I like giving corner worker rides.

yeah I was amazed with how well balanced the car is F-R and Side to Side. Shows a well built/designed car!

Still amazing me how cheap we got them! Now we need to start jacking the prices up and increase the resell value!
