Another Cold weather starting problem
Hi all
New guy posting Great site, very informative 2000 Jimmy, 109500 mi. Cold weather starting problem. Followed MT advice and pressure test the fuel pump. Here are the results. Key on not started 60 psi Engine started idling 58 psi Pinched off return key on not started 64 psi Driving & accelerating between 56 & 58 psi I guess the readings speak for them selves. Change the fuel pump? What seems funny is that the truck starts no problem above 14’ F. Anything colder and I have to plug in the block heater I assume to keep the injectors warmer. If any one has any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks |

Re: Another Cold weather starting problem
Which engine?
How old is battery??? On my 96 k1500 5.7 if I don't have a good battery with high cca (Right now I have a 630 cca battery ) it won't turn over fast enough in cold weather for the injectors to fire. When you plug yours in the engine block gets warm enough so its easier to crank over fast enough to fire injectors. Hope this helps |

Re: Another Cold weather starting problem
i would try a good battery because when your cranking it takes power from pump and your battery is doing this that should be plenty of presure to start it. i have a duralast in my truck for about six years now. and it will start like your saying the colder it gets it wont start and when it gets warmer it will start. so i'd start with a higher cranking amp than what you got now and a well knowen battery. i'll tell you now not a sears sucker..
