ETC prob?

Hi, I have a 04 Ram1500 quad 4x4 5,7 and I had a prob on the highway where the rpm goes up then down and un and down you see. I was at about 110kph (66mph I think) Then I pulled over to a parking lot and when I stop, I had no power at all even if you press the pedal all the way down. no reaction at all. when I was driving on the highway the ETC light (little red lightning) was flashing. In the parking lot, It was still driving just couldn't accelerate. I then stopped the engine and started it again, and the truck drove perfect after that. Any idea what could be the problem? thanks in advance.

Re: ETC prob?

ETC stands for electronic throttle control. Your truck has no throttle linkage between the gas pedal and the motor, only wires. I can't tell you what caused this but turning the key off and back on resets everything. Keep an eye on it. You may have to take it to a dealer for repair if it keeps doing it.

Re: ETC prob?

Yes, I know what ETC stands for. I'm taking it to the dealer monday so they can check it. By the way, anyone ever experienced the same thing with their truck? The trouble happened Wednesday and so far the truck is running and driving just fine. I'll tell you what was the prob after my truck has been to the dealer.

Re: ETC prob?

The problem with taking it to the dealer is that they can't fix it unless it's broke. In other words, if it is running fine when they check it, it will check fine. You may wind up paying a diagnose fee (usually 1 hour labor) for nothing. I know it's almost inpossible, but you're better off to have it checked when it is not working. If the dealer knows of a common part failure they may be able to fix it.

I had an intermittent problem on my last truck. Fortunately it failed one day when I was a mile from the dealer. I drove straight there and then they were able to fix it.

good luck

Re: ETC prob?

Hemidaze is right. If the light is not on it is not a hard fault. It can't be properlly diagnosed at this point. There is a TSB #14-002-05 for the throttle body for (Below 0° F (minus 18°C) . It is possible the temp was cold enough; and with the added wind chill for your speed that the throttle body froze and after pulling over it warmed up enough to operate properly? Just a thought.

Re: ETC prob?

Yes, after reading that TSB, it sure looks like the trouble I'm having. I'll make them check that throttle body at the dealer since I need to to go there anyway. Thanks for that useful info.
