I have a 1998 Buick Regal - Super charged
I took the screws out of the column shroud and the shroud behind the steering wheel and still can not remove these peices... How do I remove the steering wheel? I see no hole anywhere for anything. I spent the last 20 Min's looking and pulling and I am getting no where at all... I already disconnected the battery and removed the fuse for the Air bag system. I need to replace the Turn single lever in why I'm doing this. The rear left side brake light doesn't work and this is the cause. |

Re: How do you remove the steering wheel?
To remove the steering wheel you need a GM specific steering wheel puller tool, however, to replace the turn signal aka multifunction switch you do not need to remove the steering wheel just the plastic behind it.
Let me know if you would like a tech procedure with pics.

All I have is a standard steering wheel puller, I guess that wouldn't have worked out for me anyway>? I would very much love to see the tech procedure with pics, just to make my life so much easier, if it's not too much trouble. The faster I can get this done the better, I have to get this complete so my mother can use her car for work. I'm having a very difficult time removing the plastic piece around the column, I'm thinking I might have to try removing the lower dash panel to give me more room to work around the tilt lever and the ignition switch? Thank you ![]() I read here that I would need a lock plate compressor tool for this fix, thinking they where talking about removing the steering wheel? http://en.allexperts.com/q/Steering-Column-Repair-2047/1998-buick-regal-change.htm |

Re: How do you remove the steering wheel?
Good timing with this question. Just coming to work today I noticed that my Hi / Low beam switch was acting funny, and that I would probably need to replace it. I came here to search, and your question right at the top.

Did some searching, and found this link that BNaylor posted in another post.

Very cool, thank you ![]() What did you type in to search? I was having no luck at all with the google search I was doing.. I didn't know you posted until I came back to check. For some reason I did not receive a instant email notification of new replies, but I did for the first 2 responses... Glad I came back to check. Have you tried this yet? I might have to tear into it today or tomorrow, looks easy opcorn:

Re: How do you remove the steering wheel?
I did mine yesterday, took me about 1 hour start to finish.
You will need about 2 or 3 little Zip-Ties |
