Smile Keyless Entry

Hello All,

I have a 2001 Alero and my keyless remote has stopped working with the car. I went to autozone and after checking it, it seems that the remote itself is working fine but nothing happens to the car. I'm thinking the following:

1. Need to reprogram the remote again to the car
2. Fuse if any for keyless entry blown - I looked at the manual and it seems that the same fuse that controls the keyless also control the power seats (i might be wrong). My power seat works
3. Wireless unit in the car is broken?

Any help appreciated.

Re: Keyless Entry

The fuse in question is the BFC batt fuse 10 amp in the left I/P fuse box (driver's side by door) - open driver's door to access it

There are two different systems for your car- one was by Lear, the other by Delphi On this vehicle there are two different types of RKE systems. The first type of RKE system is intergrated into the Body Control Module and is supplied by Delphi.

The second type of RKE system uses a Remote Control Door Lock Reciever Module and is supplied by Lear.

The best way to identify which type of RKE system the vehicle has is by the key fob, The system that is integrated into the BCM will either be blank or have DEIPHI embossed on the back of the key fob. The RCDLR based systems key fobs will have LEAR embossed on the back of the key fob.

In either case a scan tool is the only way to program the key fobs- no other way - so if fuse is okay- looks like a trip to someone who has the TechII and knows how to use it.

Re: Keyless Entry

Hello and thanks for your response.

The remote itself doesnt have any brand name on it. The back has:

GM1626307499
CANADA: 26861021384
MODEL/FCCID: 1DL2C005T

I will check the fuse in a bit and post results.

Re: Keyless Entry

Brcidd,

I checked the fuse and it looks good. Could it be that the keyt was deprogrammed when it fell etc?

Now it's either the key is deprogrammed or the base unit is toasts. Where is it located in the car?

Re: Keyless Entry

Welcome to AF Machbuster !

Check the relays for the lock/unlock, 3 of them in the drivers side fuse box.

Have you replaced the remote battery ?
Or how did the zone know it was working ?

hope that helps

edit>>>
If you have replaced the battery you might try and resync the remote.
standing next to the drivers door, press & hold the lock and unlock for 5 seconds. The door(s) should lock then unlock.

Other wise youre going to need a GM dealer to check the receiver system in the car.

Thanks Xero

I did the 5 seconds tip and it didnt work.

Autozone has an RF machine that checks the remote for any RF signal it's emitting.

Maybe when the remote was dropped, it might have messed the programming up. So the other relays you mentioned also control the keyless?

Where is the base unit in the car located?

Dropping or damaging the remote (keyfob) may mess up the keyfob but not the programming.

Have you tried another keyfob. Any spare?

The RCDLR receiver module is located under the rear speaker package tray. The body control module (BCM) is located under the passenger side of the dash.

Re: Keyless Entry

Hello, Machbuster

Very likely you have the transmitter on your key fob broken.

Same thing happen to me, dropped my keys one to many times, and remote stopped working. I opened it and founs that the little radiotransmitter IC had come off the IC board.

You can get OEM remotes on ebay dirt cheap, but you still need to go to the dealer or someone with a Tech II in order to reprogram. No two ways about it.

Re: Keyless Entry

Hi Aleromgf,

I have a 2 yr old that has dropped my key/remote many times. I did open the remote and found no loose components. Even changeed the battery but it just stopped working. At Autozone, they have a machine to check remotes and it seemed that my remote was transmitting on all keys. But it could be that it was transmitting the wrong codes.

A previous poster on here said that even dropping it many times will not affect the programming. I have checked all fuses and they are fine. Most of the times the same fuses control other items. So far from what I can tell everything is working but not the remote. It stopped working abruptly.

I think next thing would be to check the actual base unit in the car. I will do that in the summer since in New England right now ther is no way you can work on a car outside. My garage is still full from things that are in boxes ( I just moved in this house)
