Coughing problem
If this has been covered in another thread, I apologize. I'm at work and don't have a lot of time to search....
I have a 97 Wrangler Sport 4.0 I6. She runs great and just passed smog with flying colors. Here's my odd problem. Yesterday I left work and went to the store about 2 miles away. When I came out and started her, she started fine and all of the gauges were fine, but she was making what I have to describe as a coughing. I pushed the gas pedal thinking it would stop but nothing. No response at all, not even a revving. I shut her off and looked under the hood but nothing was out of place. I got back in and started her (with my fingers crossed) and she started fine, ran fine all the way home, and was fine this morning. Can anyone shed some light on this? What caused it? What to do if it happens again (I hope not)... I was really nervous as this is my only vehicle. Thanks in advance for your help. ![]() P.S. I forgot to mention I was only in the store 5 or 10 minutes... Last edited by lilcrc; 01-21-2009 at 11:58 AM. |

Re: Coughing problem
Sounds like the Crankshaft Position Sensor.
It's a $90 part and there are how-to's in the Cherokee section; do a search and you'll find lots of information.
