Scuderia Torro Rosso STR3, 1/20, MFH

Hi guys,

I started to do things I promised to myself that I will never do, building more and more kits same time. I know we all try to avoid that but in reality it is just to .... tempting

So with few projects going on I started a new one, just because I love livery on this one.

Basic kit is not the best you have seen from MFH, panels are not the sharpest one, all ducts and holes are shallow or closed and overall smooth surface of resin is not on the level of usual MFH.

But never the less, interesting subject with nice decals.

Since I am very sensitive on holes and ducts I decided to drill everything I can in order to get "real" look.

So, started with upper air ducts, I used proxxon to thin the shell from inside, used thin drill bits to make borders for hole and cut them out with No. 11 blade.

Put all things I thought should be on body before primer.

Drilled holes on lower air ducts (close to exhaust) and made a bit of step on exhaust holes in order to get cowling look and not toy like look of exhaust area.

I slightly cleaned those winglets and decided to put them on even thou it could make some problems during final steps of clear coats.

Of course I made the intake hole over drivers head, It was very shallow.

And of to primer, I made three sand/prime process before I was happy with result on all surfaces.

Sanded all with 6000 polishing cloth and dryfitted bottom and gearbox.

This is where I stand now.

Hopefully I will manage to do more soon

Hi

This will surely be worth following! :-)

Caution with those winglets behind the air intake. They will be in your way when decaling the huge airbox decals and will be prone to be knocked off. I hope you have fixed them solidly with wire or something?

Anyway good start and nice primercoat. I can recommend the Hiroboy Red Bull colour as very easy to apply and get an even coating.

Damn Sasa! you are going to force me to get one of these resin F1 kits soon - you make them look so sexy to build!

Nice start!

Is it me or the fin on the engine cover isn't in the right position but a bit to the left of the cover?

very nice start,

to be aware you are gonna most likely have to fix the resin transmission/rear wing support. the support piece is off and will make teh wing sit funny. just as a heads up.

will you be using the STR paint also

cheers,
Steve

ohh yes that will be interesting opcorn:

I have to admit that I started this kit too, I just couldn't resist... and as some mentioned before check the rear wing alignment. It is usually completely off, you could also check f1m.com there are quite a few progress threads and some useful tips.

Re: Scuderia Torro Rosso STR3, 1/20, MFH

You can go through my old posts on my personal site and see what my solution to the rear wing was.
I should be done with my RB4 version and soon, and so far I'm pleased with the results.
Great work and good luck.
And be careful with the white metal pieces! So brittle!

Thank you guys for all valuable information, next step is surely dry fit of rear wing to see the problems.
Paint is bought from hiroboy of course.
Jano, since the fin is very thin I have moved it left and right all the time, no need to worry it can be reshaped with no problem.
