Wiper woes...

My 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix has picked up another phantom electrical issue. I've learned to live without my heads-up display and clock radio, but I can't see past my windshield wipers which remain vertical when put in the "off" position! They are otherwise totally functional, and lay down normally between wipes when they are running, so I could pass vehicle inspection, but the mechanic suggested I replace the entire wiper motor, when I suspect its some kind of park switch within the assembly....any experience with this out there?

Re: Wiper woes...

If Bob's suggestion isn't your issue, you may need a new crank arm for the wiper motor. It has a spring loaded cam that goes bad that's part of the park function, and it's cheaper than a new motor (and the new motor doesn't come with it, it has a "dummy" crank arm attached that has to be swapped).

BNaylor, are you wearing a cape right now, because you're my hero!!! I can't take credit for making the fix myself, but I passed on your advice to my mechanic (dad) and the fix took ten minutes and no parts to solve a solid month of frusteration. Thanks again BNaynay!
