Engine Miss
I have a 2006 Sable and it misses once in awhile for no reason. It will go for days and not do it and then it will do it all the time. It does it at all speeds. It started this the day I had new tires put on it. ???? I do not get a code. It does it for no apparent reason. This past weekend it did all the way on a 70 mi trip. I added some dry gas and it only did it once on the way home.

Re: Engine Miss
I start by checking the basics: spark plugs and wires.
How many miles on the car? |

Re: Engine Miss
It has 70 k for miles. I would think if it was the plugs or wires it would it all the time. I will do that if it gets worse

Re: Engine Miss
When was the last fuel filter change?
One more thing...and I am not trying to be funny, but I thought they {Ford} discontinued the Sable in 05 replacing it with the Milan and/or Montego for '06. I could be wrong...I've been wrong b4 and I am sure I will be wrong again... |

Re: Engine Miss
Well... mine had the same problem,.. it turned out to be the power pack.. I did all wire set,.. nothing,.. spark plugs,.. nothing,.. and finally when I did the power pack,.. it did solve the problem.. old one had hair line crack.. and it would come and go on the missfire... sometimes worse than other times.. may be losing a little power... there are many jthreads on this problem on this forum.. that explains the process... mine is 2001 sable ls,.. with dohc.. part costs around 80.00 or so from autozone..
you can get to it,.. by the firewall,.. without taking the intake manifold.. I really suggest this,.. because I broke couple of bolts on the process,... and that took 10 times more time and headache than the original problem..unless you gonna work on the intake system. replace gasket,.. . clean,.. etc.. . mine is held by star bolt,.. so do not rush the job.. in my experience with fixing cars,... the real problem is braking other things,.. by trying to fix one thing.. of course,.. if you have a bad spark plugs,.. and /or wire set that needs to be replaced,.. you have to take the intake off... just take your time.. and don't brak other things..but try the power pack first.. before taking all that off,... if that does not fix,.. then.. take the intake off... . good luck.. jc.. |
