2005 Hid Headlights

I am in need of assistance. This will be my first car with HID and short of buying parts does anyone know how to trouble-shoot the HID lighting. I have a right light that turns on and off and then stays off. I figured it would be a bump I hit or something but it usually goes out after being on a 1/2 hour or so. I thought these items were 3000 hour items? I am at roughly half life at 170,000 miles. I am looking at 450.00 for a ballast and 100.00 for a bulb is this the only way to trouble shoot headlights? Hell this car does everything and wipe you butt. You would think it would tell me I had a bad bulb.
Thanks

Re: 2005 Hid Headlights

Be very careful the HID lighting can kill you, its high voltage and even if the lights are off, its still charged.

Because of that they have made it difficult to get to them. You have to remove the complete front fascia. I just traded in my 2005 w/HID (on 2009 CTS4). I never had problems with the lights in 4yrs. I think you got no choice but let the dealer fix it, they could save you money but finding the problem and instead of throwing expensive parts at it.

Re: 2005 Hid Headlights

I would hate to have to agree with you. I know they will stick it too me. 80.00 / hr not to mention they will want to perform every possible oh by the way you need this. I can only imagine what a head light bulb cost from the dealer. I have purchased a transformer off ebay for 125.00 and the bulbs for a pair are 75.00 I am sure they are three time this from the dealer. Kragen wants 150.00 for a set of lights. I just don't see how they could be bad this early in the game.
